Kate Bryzek, Science

Contact Kate Bryzek  Kate Bryzek Science Teacher

I grew up and live in Hayward, California. I live with my husband, Jake and my two children Vash and Kaija. My family immigrated from Poland and I learned English along with my parents. I attended University of California Santa Cruz where I earned my B.A. in Psychology and Minor in Education. I took my CSETs in Life Science, Physical Science and Biology and earned my credential and eventually received my M.S. in Education at Cal State East Bay.

Other than being by the ocean, I enjoy bike riding, pilates, art, video games, movies, playing board games and being an active member in the community. I continually enjoy learning and want to know as much as I can about the science world and in particular, medicine and psychology.

I have been at Del Amigo since 2013 and I can never imagine leaving. I love this school and the small community we have established here. I get to learn about each individual student – their ambition and interests and I want to help them reach their goals.

As I grow older, I appreciate how lucky I am to be working in the creative, flexible environment of Del Amigo.

I grew up on the North Jersey Shore in Matawan, a suburb of New York City.

I received a B.A. in both Economics and Fine Arts from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.  Subsequently I attended graduate school in St. Louis, Missouri and earned an MFA in painting from Washington University.

While pursuing an art career, I taught community college classes and worked as a waiter.  I was selected for a residency at the Wurlitzer Foundation in Taos, New Mexico, after which I moved from St. Louis to northern New Mexico.  There I exhibited paintings at Conlan Gallery in Santa Fe.  While living in New Mexico I also completed the coursework for my Certified Financial Planning license and worked in both the Financial Planning and Tax Preparation businesses for seven years.

In 2001 I accepted a job with an accounting/financial planning firm in Oakland.  I quickly realized that I missed the art world, so I enrolled in school again to earn an art teaching credential.  In 2003 I began teaching high school art in SRVUSD.

I enjoy playing tennis, doing art, spending time with my wife and dogs, watching all kinds of sports, and following the stock market and economics in general.

I attended California State University, East Bay where I earned my Bachelors in Business Administration concentrating in Corporate Management and Advertising and Public Relations. I am also attending Walden University and will be graduating with my Masters in Business Administration in June 2018.

I enjoy being by an ocean, working out, baking, traveling, boating, and shopping. I have a love for learning and am passionate about sharing it. I worked in industry for a few years before I attempted to open my own business. Throughout this experience I gained knowledge in business finance, math, and entrepreneurship. From this experience, I realized my love for learning and passion for educating others; this led me to Del Amigo. I enjoy the environment at Del Amigo and getting to know each student. I am happy to be part of student successes and look forward to them growing and accomplishing their goals.

Junell Watson, Culinary

The art of culinary has been one of my greatest passions since I was a young girl. My professional experience began at the age of fourteen after working for the bakery I soon realized that the bread wasn’t the only thing that desired to rise. It was my High School Culinary class at Monte Vista that taught me I could turn my passion for the kitchen in to a career.

College took me down south to San Diego when I began working my way through the industry. I then decided to further my formal education. In 2008, I departed for London, England, where I attended Le Cordon Bleu. It was there that I studied with world-class chefs and students from around the world.

Upon finishing my program in London I knew I wanted to continue learning from the best chefs and expanding my knowledge, by working in all of the major food cities. I completed an externship in Paris, Then worked my way through all the major food cites, San Francisco, Napa, San Diego, Chicago, and the list goes on. My most recent adventure was opening my own bakery.

I am Happy to be at Del Amigo, where I can Share my knowledge of Culinary with the future generation. All in all no matter where my love for the kitchen has taken me nothing feels more right than here.

I'm thrilled to be a staff member here at Del Amigo. I made a choice to go into education while still in high school and have been fortunate to have been teaching for over a decade. I earned my BA, MA, and Teaching Credential from California State University East Bay. I have taught at the middle, secondary, and post-secondary levels, as well as coached men's basketball for 10 seasons for both Liberty and Heritage High Schools. History and the Social Sciences are my true passion. If I am fortunate to have your child as one of my students, they will be exposed to various schools of thought and be given every opportunity to succeed. It is my hope that your students will enjoy that curriculum, and I will impart my love of knowledge on them to mold them into lifelong learners.
